NEU: Rich`s Eindrücke zur The Mission Farewell Tour 2008

Richard Vernon

Richard,

05 Mrz 2008, 09:00 the shows.....

sorry for the delay and to all the people who have hassled me for a message.er....here it is!i'v only been home since yesterday and it's pretty hard to adjust so i'm going very slowly and enjoying doing nothing. i'v been completely submerged in the songs since november and if anybody gave me a guitar right now i would throw it at them. That said, the tour was fantastic and certainly the best i'v done with the band,it was more intense than other's because of the sheer amount of material to play,it really felt to me that i didnt relax until the last week of the tour, that didnt make it bad, just tense and sometimes that makes for good shows.it really felt as if we peaked at shepherds bush, for me all 4 nights were fantastic,at the time it felt like some nights were a little more down than others but in retrospect i think thats because we were playing whole albums and now i'm really happy with what we did. i honestly dont feel i can give any more than i gave over this tour and i think the others feel the same.
It was a tour where i remembered that rather than dealing with all that posey rock'n'roll crap and partying and having a good time (which i did though..lol) i was there to play in a great band and do it as best i could.i felt i did that and i'v never enjoyed a tour, playing wise, more. Some nights it gave me a great buzz watching the other 3 do their thing and of course at shepherds bush having simon around gave it another lift too. Little things like miles and erica's totally different approach gave us a lift too, erica being a proper ,grown up musician and so serene and in control contrasting with miles's rock'n'roll "what are the chords?lets do it!" approach made me smile in rehearsal and laugh out loud at the gig...and it sounded great!

Saturday night especially summed up for me what the mission is,an experience and emotion that is as much to do with the crowd and atmosphere as it is the band itself, you need both for a perfect evening, give us a crap, lazy crowd and we can't deliver. If we dont reach out and bring the crowd with us the gig is useless. It was pretty bloody obvious that at shepherds bush everything was perfect.playing bass for the mish is a bit like driving an enormous truck at 150 mph for 2 hours, add to that the view and noise of the crowd giving me goosebumps with their passion and happiness and ...well,you can imagine. Not a bad feeling. Not bad at all.

Thanks to you all,as ever I'v made great new friends and met people who had a nice effect on me,lots of people i just chatted to outside the shows, the brilliant Dead Guitars,a very quiet berliner and a dear friend who came a long way and ignored my bad mood.

Now?i'm still in the post tour haze,i cant wait to see the dvd but i'm just enjoying the peace and quiet back in wales, satisfied with a great, great tour.Im not making any plans or thinking about the future at all, that stuff tends to happen to me and its worked out well so far. Once again thanks to you all.In case you are interested today is sunny and im going out to teach my son some skateboard tricks....see u around,Rich xx
